In 2020, Glad Day Bookshop turns fifty years old. To celebrate the past and look to the future, we are launching our 50 for 50th campaign. It is our goal to raise $50,000 in five key areas: Community and Events; Authors and Artists; Improving the Book Collection; Facility Enhancements; and Monthly Operating Support.
After being at our new location of 499 Church Street for over two years, it has become clear: much of our labour and existence is dedicated to non-profit work and we aren’t going to be able to make enough money through food, drink and book sales to keep doing this important work.
Not only does Glad Day create space for all kinds of people, all kinds of needs and all kinds of gatherings, we also provide referrals, educate educators, connect speakers to audiences, support newcomers, help students research, build author profiles, facilitate conversations, advocate for our community and use our vast network in the service of art and justice…… to name a few things. But all of this takes time and labour.
For fifty years, Glad Day has been there for generations of people who needed it to learn their history, live their present and imagine their future. In this increasingly expensive city and hostile world, Glad Day is more fragile and more important than ever.
We want to continue serving our communities.
But we can’t do it without your help.
